So here are my picks for the next VMAN Ford Models contest. The amount of entrants has quadrupled since the first one, and Nick Knight will be shooting the boys this time around. Click here to see who's vying for a cover. The two from New York are my faves.

June 25th 2009

Yesterday started out as another day on the calendar however, by its end, had become "June 25th." A day marked in history that fans around the globe will remember for years to come.

Growing up, he could do no wrong. Before court cases and 'Whacko Jacko' there was a child prodigy, a teenage sensation, a revolutionary and an icon. He was a trailblazer who broke barriers and paved the way for many greats to come.

Say what you will about Michael Jackson, he has left an indelible mark on the world and his impact and contribution cannot be denied.

RIP Michael Jackson.

RIP Farrah Fawcett

I haven't been near my computer all week and was on my BB when I received news of Farrah Fawcett's death, and rushed home to write something about the "Angel," who's poster I wore proudly on a t-shirt in the 6th grade. Her death came as no surprise, yet nonetheless a great loss.

L-O-V-E-D Farrah Fawcett. She was the only girl I ever had a crush on.

RIP Farrah Fawcett.

Party Pics Round 2

So I'm sure by now everyone's seen enough of my party pics, however, thanks to Danny Schwartz, Vincent Lacrocq and Greg Kessler, there's more!

Yes, mine is the story of the party photographer that threw a party and didn't get anyone to take pics. I did manage to snap a few shots at the beginning, however, quickly realized I would have no fun if I was responsible for the night.

Thankfully, Greg happened to have his point-and-shoot on him and was having so much fun, didn't mind snapping shots.

Danny, after two seconds of just holding my camera, was instantly bit by the "shutter" bug, and quickly decided he wanted to play photographer for the night.

And at the end of the night, just a few of us hangin' at the bar before heading out, Vincent decided to take a turn behind the lens. Which, was basically all of us playing with Patrick McMullan, who thank GOD came through at the end of the night and grabbed whoever was still around.

Okay here's a few I shot at the first part of the night. Kiko and I.

Sorry there's so many...I figured those guys deserved to see what they shot. Oh ya, Cat was there in spirit.

Ryan Vigilant

I ran in to my little buddy Ryan Vigilant a couple weeks ago! He's skipping the shows to continue his acting classes, which he LOVES. And then I was surfin' the web the other night and found these shots he'd done for Tetu, back when he had just moved to New York and shaved his head. What's up boyeee?!?

Resort

I've been so crazy the past week I've completely slacked on getting pics up. Case in point, Resort Wear (two weeks ago.) And actually, I was crazy that week as well. Luckily I was able to shoot one day, which happened to be two of my faves. Calvin was in the morning and was, as always, very cool and chill and a perfect way to ease in to the day. TwitPic'd with Francisco and Italo, played with the girls and I was off to DVF!

Cuz you know I love me some Diane von Furstenberg! The show was downtown at the store and not only were Alana Zimmer and Erin Bubley there but I did some "pre-show" shots of Diane with James Kaliardos and Alex de Betak. The whole day was a lot of fun.

Q & A

So I completely forgot last week when I posted Rodeo's new cover that I'd done a little Q&A with them for their new issue. (Duh.) So, if you're interested, here's a little conversation between myself and Ponystep's Dean Mayo Davies.

JD Ferguson is the handsome, silver haired model-turned-photographer and dude-about-NYC. Glance and you’ll see him backstage, cigarette in hand, laughing and clicking away in a hoody and jeans, or dashing across the city to castings or the gym in metallic aviators. And then there’s the parties. An embodiment of the kind of man girls want to be with and boys want to be, JD brings the party and puts the F - fun - back in fashion. By Dean Mayo Davies

Hey JD, can you explain about your background for the few people that may not be fully up-to-speed with your life. You’ve had a really interesting journey...

Well, I worked as a model for over 10 years, though I was not someone you'd see riding around in limos or walking the catwalk. I was a working model, as guys my age are, travelling around the world to different markets doing mostly catalogue and commercial jobs. For years I based myself out of Miami spending six months of the year on South Beach and the other six abroad. I loved it! It opened up my life and exposed me to the world. Though I grew increasingly bored and developed several different "hobbies" as a way to try and fulfil myself. By the time I stopped, I was painting, writing, doing videos and taking photos. In 2002 I met Stephen Gan who offered me a job at V Magazine where my responsibilities were everything from casting campaigns and working on the websites to unclogging the toilet. In-house photographer was eventually added to the list and that's when my love and interest in photography grew. At V I worked with all the top contributors in the industry and eventually started shooting backstage and writing about it for the website.

Why is it you think people would read your blog?

Because they're horny? Or maybe because they live in some far off country and want to see what's happening in NYC fashion/nightlife. Or maybe they're into porn stars. Or perhaps they are really into models and wanna know more about them outside of what they see in magazines or on the runway.

How would you describe what you do?

That's a good question. I basically just have a good time and I bring my camera along. And then I write about it.

I think you were an early adopter of the weblog format. But what inspired you to embrace it? And do you think your career path has informed your outlook or viewpoint?

Honestly, I was having a row with one of the designers over at V, via email, and he finally said "If you don't like it, why don't you start your own f-ing blog." So, I did. And I'd say my career path definitely affects my outlook. Even as a model, I never considered myself "in fashion" and even now, as someone who I guess you could say "reports" on it, at times, find it somewhat of a joke. Not as a business but how incredibly serious some people take themselves. I guess having been on the "inside" it's easy for me to distinguish between what's real and what's not and that most certainly shapes my view of it all.

How many hits do you get a month?

OMG far more than I ever expected and surprisingly about the same amount as most of the magazines I work for. Which is shocking considering I started it for fun. The fact that people even log on still amazes me.

What’s a typical day like in your life? If there is such a thing...

Up until the economy crashed, my days were filled with rolling spliffs, cute boys and porn stars, with a couple parties in between. Now (that I've committed to going back to modelling) it's the gym, yoga and working at looking and feeling good.

I know from our correspondence that you’re the king of multitasking, but what does get you away from your laptop when you get the chance?

Not much. Coffee and cigarettes. And men. Men get me away from my computer.

You’ve run some pretty huge content due to the fact you’re so integrated into the scene you’re talking about. Your ‘What Up?’ feature in particular has become a cult, with names (and friends of yours) featured such as Lara Stone, Cecilia Dean, Eddie Klint. What have been your personal highlights?

My favourite thing about the ‘What Up?’ series is the relaxed and candid manner in which it happens. it's very casual and low-key and usually involves a good time that ends up in a ‘What Up?’ For that reason everyone I do it with is completely comfortable and 100% themselves. Many of the people I interview are used to speaking about their lives and (at times) can be very guarded about what they say. With me, I like that they feel chill enough to be honest and expose a side of themselves that they might not otherwise be able to with other "formal" publications. My personal highlight of all the ‘What Up?’s was, hands-down, Sally Singer [of Vogue]. I knew nothing about her when we sat down and because she does interviews for a living and usually is talking about everything BUT herself, I liked that she responded to the informal atmosphere and really opened up about her past and her path to the top. AND I learned a lot about the "business" of fashion in the meantime.

Who are your favourite models at the moment? Who are you obsessing over?

Well, it's off-season so there's no-one I'm really ga-ga over at the moment. It's usually the boys that get all the obsessing anyways. Hmmm... I spent a lot of time this past season going on about Jamie Jewitt. Not just because he's cute but he's really funny and such a character. You can YouTube "Jamie Jewitt" and see the show I did on him from backstage. I love this German boy Jonas Kesseler and of course Simon Nessman remains a personal favourite of mine. I've always loved Phillip Bierbaum, so I'm happy he's finally getting some recognition. For girls, it's all about Catherine McNeil and Abbey Lee for me right now. I guess because I've seen them quite a bit lately and we're all on "health-kicks" together.

Karl Lagerfeld is someone else you’re close to. How did you meet? And what’s your favourite Lagerfeld bon mot?

Ah, I love Karl. I worked closely with him a lot while I was at V. We are both believers in treating everyone the same, which I think is why we've always gotten on so well. That and he appreciates people who are real with him. As far as stories go, I'm afraid there's too many to tell, and not many I could tell. However, I was actually just laughing with myself the other day about this one time during men's shows. I ended up at his studio in Paris and when he came in to give me a hug he said "What did you think of the show?" (That I had seen him at earlier that day) and, having just finished my last show of two weeks of Milan and Paris (and a smoke prior to his walking in) I said "Which show?"....."Oh God" he said, shook his head and walked away. I thought it was so funny. He's always telling me I should be blond and, well, I guess he's right.

What other projects are you working on at the moment?

I'm STILL working on getting my photography book together so I can finally get an agent and take my photography more seriously. At the moment though, I'm working on my new website. Both are a far bigger undertaking than I ever imagined... Ugh.

And finally, you have to tell us, what’s the best thing about being JD Ferguson?

I do what I want, when I want. And my game. I got MAD game.

Adam NYC

So I've been getting a lot of emails and comments about Adam NYC, New York's latest addition to the male-model agency roster. Jules Hamilton is their latest find. He's 20 yrs. old and born and raised right here in Manhattan. (I'll give you one guess at who's holding an exclusive on him for their show in Milan.) I think he looks great.

Fabulous Nobodies

I hit Pop Burger over on the Westside Tuesday night, for Julie Anne Quay's announcement and celebration of Colac Pictures and it's first project. The 80's classic, "Fabulous Nobodies." It was an absolute blast! Complete with break-dancers, good tunes and, I'm sorry, anyone who passes mini-burgers as hors d'oeuvres is alright in my book.

Author Lee Tulloch was on-hand to celebrate with Julie Anne, along with Candy Pratts-Price, Stephen Gan, Branna Wolf, Cecilia Dean, James Kaliardos (and mum) Dirk Standen, IMG's Ivan Bart, Pascal Dangin, Nicole Phelps, Italo Zuchheli, Greg Krelenstein, Ben Widdicombe, hair-god Christiaan, a room full of downtown kids along with a handful of cute Aussies, and many more! Pics to come over at V and congrats JAQ!

RSVP

I shot Travis Hanson for the invite for my party, which went out late as I was awaiting his availability (worth the wait.) I sent them out on Facebook, which seemed logical at the time however, unfortunately, many (close friends) who didn't RSVP to the address on the invite were not let in. And as my BB was in my camera bag the entire night, I'm afraid I didn't get all the "Hey we're outside and they're not letting us in" 's until 5:30 the next morning. Hopefully next time everyone will RSVP.

What Up? Travis Hanson

I'm in love with Travis Hanson (I'm sure his girlfriend's gonna love that,) and not for all the reasons you may think. Of course he's great to look at and sexy as hell, but he's a really nice kid. I remember getting his polaroids a couple years back (and then of course noticed him in French Vogue with Lara Stone by Steven Klein) but it wasn't until shooting him last month for V that I realized how special he was.

We met up last week and nailed a dozen amazing shots in about 30 minutes. Total pro this kid and he knows exactly how to move in front of the camera. Which is always a treat. We wrapped up early and decided to knock out a "What Up?' over a bowl of noodles in the Lower Eastside, which, was basically me inhaling my food while Travis turned the tables and interviewed me.

He's extremely down to earth and very chill. Oh! And did I mention that he's sexy as hell?

So What Up Travis?

JD: Where you from Travis?
Travis Hanson: Wisconsin.
JD: How's that?
TH: Nothin' but trees, cows and lots of beer.
JD: You in the city now?
TH: Astoria, Queens.
JD: How long you been here?
TH: Almsot 2 yrs.
JD: And?
TH: I love NYC.
JD: So did you always wanna be a model?
TH: Never thought about being a model but it's a good option when you get to live out of a suitcase and see the world. But no, it's not something I set out to do.
JD: Well I think you're Major.
TH: (laughs) And I'm with Major.
JD: No really, I think I may be in love with you.
TH: That's what happens when you spend the afternoon shooting me in underwear...lol.
JD: Well what are the chances of getting you to make out with me?
TH: Slim to none and here's your food. Looks like what everybody eats in Hong Kong.
JD: Were you there?
TH: For a job.
JD: What was it?
TH: Japanese GQ and Vogue China.
JD: How was it?
TH: Hong Kong or the job?
JD: Either, or both.

TH: Hong kong was amazing. I had a day off and went to Wei Chen mountain and saw the city at night. Las Vegas has nothing on Hong Kong.
JD: Really? Was it like Bladerunner?
TH: Totally.
JD: And the job?
TH: 16 hour flight, so 32 hrs to shoot in a studio.
JD: How has work been going? Things must've really taken off after your French Vogue came out, no?
TH: It definitely got my face out there and things are good, but it's like everything else with the economy right now.
JD: Ya.
TH: How often do you eat here?
JD: I don't. I used to live right there and a friend of mine lives there so for one winter this was our "too lazy to make food" hangover place.
TH: (laughs) So I guess it works right now as well.
JD: Ya, it's cheap and you can't go wrong with noodles. We're the only ones that got this place though, everyone else was always like "Dude! I would never eat at a place that has dead ducks hanging in the window!"
TH: Is this breakfast, lunch or dinner?
JD: Kinda all three.
TH: It's four o'clock, you seem really hungry.
JD: I know, look at me! I'm a beast. I need to slow down.
TH: Here gimme the BB, I'll interview you.

JD: Okay, but please don't ask me why I'm such a perv. I'm so bored with that question.
TH: (laughs) Nah...it is funny though. If you were a straight guy shooting young girls in their undies and writing about how hot they were people would probably freak.
JD: I know right? That's fashion for ya I guess. Have you ever felt, I don't know...objectified?
TH: Never. But everyone I've worked with has been extremely professional and cool and my agent always has my back. I'm never put in bad situations.
JD: That's good. It wasn't the same for me when I was a model. I had bad experiences in Milan early on when I was younger and naive. I think that's why I'm so sensitive about people feeling comfortable. Besides you just spent the afternoon alone with me in your underwear, did you ever feel uncomfortable?
TH: Not at all. But you are a perv...lol.
JD: I'm just horny.
TH: Dude slow down! You're inhaling it.
JD: Okay I'm done. My turn. Gimme back the BB.
JD: So are you a Sex and the City fan?
TH: My girlfriend loves that show so I've seen a lot of it. I thought the movie sucked though.
