Can you believe our cute little Harry has been secretly fighting on the front lines of Afghanistan? And not being pussy-footed around either, like actually in the trenches. It's unfortunate that Matt Drudge was more concerned with breaking the story than he was with putting the lives of Harry and the troops in danger by revealing the secrecy of his whereabouts. Because apparently he's quite the soldier and it's the most normal he's felt in life yet. Can you imagine? Having to go to war to feel normal.
So here's your monthly Brandon Herman update. He's doing a show with Envoy Gallery titled My Vacation With A Kidnapper and it's all about his childhood fear of being kidnapped. Knowing Brandon there will be cute boys involved. Check it out!

Everyone knows I have mad love for the backstage photographers. Not only do I respect what they do immensely, but there is no way my photography would be where it is today without the constant hand of these hardworking professionals. At the top of that list is Style.com's Greg Kessler which is why I was thrilled to see he started his own blog. It's called GoBackstage (which is genius) and I think it's so great that he's doing it.
I'm looking forward to hearing Greg's perspective on backstage. Not only has he been in the business a long time but he is liked by everyone, his pictures are seen all over the world and he's a lot of fun. Right now Greg is in Paris wrapping up four weeks of shooting (I can't believe those guys are still going), so look for lots to come from Greg in the weeks ahead. That is, after he gets back to New York and sleeps for about a week, I'm sure. Hey Greg!
I love this kids look. His name is Marcus L and he's with Red Models. I shot him at Phillip Lim this season and I hope we see more of him.

I've had FTV rollin' in the background all week which has been fun. It's nice to see the girls front of house for a change and see what went down on the catwalk in Milan, model-wise that is. So you had the big heavies...your Freja's and Coco's, Natasha's and Lilly's (who opened or closed every show she was in) and I guess even Vlada and Tanya D at this point, given the amount of shows they do.
Of course Suvi and Alana Zimmer are firmly established, with girls like Alyona, Olga Sherer, Magdalena, Maryna Linchuk and Kasia Struss clearly hitting their stride this season. Irina K has blossomed since I shot her at Prada two seasons ago, as has Siri Tollerod (who I love) and the ever present Kinga Rajzak. And let's not forget Hanne Gaby Odiele. As well as newcomers Ali Stephens, Georgina Stojilkovic, Serafima Vakulenko and Heidi Mount, who are off and running.
Lara Stone, an occasional Stam, Aggy, Irina, Trentini (who donated all of her season earnings to charity) Snejana, Iekeliene and several guest appearances by Guenivere van Seenus, who dominated the catwalk in her day. And of course the Italians love them some Mariacarla Boscono.
But the breakout star of the season is clearly Karlie Kloss who, like Catherine McNeil, has shot right to the top and even made the cut at Versace. Edita, Agnete, Michaela and Anabela Belikova all had strong showings as did Daiane Conterato and Carolina Pantoliano whose careers it seems have slipped under the radar and get better each season. And of course it's still so great to see Isabeli Fontana back on the runway.
I have to admit I started this season a little deflated, seeing so many of my favorites dropping out and being replaced with a new crop of girls. I guess I naively assumed all the girls I started with backstage would be around forever. But with such a dynamic mix of young and old with so much variety, I'd say it just got interesting. Damn, looks like I picked the wrong season to skip Europe.

Remember Kerry Degman? The little hottie from out west that Joe Lally shot not too long ago. Well he's in New York and just shot with Greg Vaughn. This kids got Bruce Weber written all over him.

I've done Ecstasy with Grace, photographed Karl and played with Calvin in Rio. The only person left on my "people I wanna meet" list (besides Keanu Reeves, but I'd rather run in to him online) is Tilda Swinton. Who is fierce.
And not even that flapping pre-show twat Regis Philbin could rob me of getting to see Marion Cotillard win gold for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose. And then getting to witness her impromptu rendition of Padam Padam at the urging of the Foreign Press backstage. Flawless.
So here's my two cents on Obama. As much as I'm wanting to jump on the "Time For Change" bandwagon, I'm afraid it's going to take more than charisma and what he's done for Chicago to win my vote. And he doesn't seem to say anything. Just a lot of posturing and catch phrases with no definitive solutions.
As robotic and seemingly void of personality as Hillary appears to be, I can only hope that come election day Americans will realize she is our strongest hope (warts and all) to go head-to-head against a seasoned John McCain. Who will not be as easy on Obama and will become increasingly more attractive as the last-minute alternative for those unable to put a woman or black man in office.
And would it really be so bad to have Bill back in the White House? It's like two for the price of one. With Obama I'm afraid all we're getting is a little charm and a lot of hope.

I was surfin' the web with my bong the other night and came across the most endearing blog. Unlike mine, which I have expressed the desire to turn in to more of a "traveling journal", 24 yr. old Brooklyn photographer Ryan Pfluger has done just that. With refreshing honesty.
Like a visual diary, Ryan chronicles his day-to-day life with commentary on everything from his favorite teacher to the hour he spent waiting to photograph Gus Van Sant. And if reading about the daily ins-and-outs of his life aren't enough, he loves a cute boy! Check out the Men I've Met series on his website. Which gave me a whole, "Why didn't I think of that?" moment. Can you imagine if I did a section of all the men I've met?
I love Ryan Pfluger! I think you should too.
The only thing I miss about not being in Milan this week is playing with Karl.
And of course Sebastian.
How beautiful is this boy? His name is Edilson and he's with Major. Figures I'd be in Miami when THE ultimate Brazilian boy rolls through town. I guess for now I'll just have to enjoy these shots Greg Vaughn got on him.

I have never felt worse about taking someone's photograph as I did the night I got a call from Chloe Sevigny's people asking if I'd shoot the launch party for her new clothing line. And lemme tell ya, after seven shows that day, with my first of seven being early the next morning, it was no easy feat.
You are looking at, officially, the last picture I will ever take of Chloe Sevigny. What a let down.
Remember Ram? The Israeli soldier who survived a bomb that wiped out his entire platoon? Well he's finally made it to New York and he's with Request. Love a hot Israeli.

So I met photographer Arnaldo Anaya on the beach over the weekend, who is SO nice. We got to talkin' about all kinds of things and ended up (surprise surprise) on Chad White, who we both adore. Of course, when he mentioned having outtakes from a recent story the two of them had done for Arena Magazine, I insisted he send them over. So for all you Chad White fans out there, enjoy!

How genius is this? Alasdair McLellan, Kim Jones and Gisele. Who woulda thought? The two Brits worked their magic over on the bombshell and I'd say it's the most I've liked her yet. Making V's Spring fashion issue No. 52 the best I've seen in ages. Wait 'til you see the covers!

More than the fresh young casting at Phillip Lim, I loved the Polaroid board. So much that I literally photographed every single one.
"I want you to be on the runway exactly how you are in your Polaroid," Phillip told the models backstage.
