Princess Diana

Having been anointed to memorialize Diana for the 10th anniversary marking her death, Prince Harry confidently steps up to the plate and delivers not only a heartfelt remembrance of his "Mum," but proves again why the legacy of her life will always remain the outstanding way in which she raised her children.

Meanwhile, with all the hoopla surrounding the date, more details have come to light in regards to that fatal night. From where I'm sitten', I'd say Henri Paul (the drag racing drunk) is responsible for Diana's death.

GAY! GAY! GAY! I bet he's wishin' he wouldn't have vetoed every gay equality amendment to cross his desk the last few years. With his arrest tapes released to the media, we find (R) Senator Larry Craig in denial, sparring with an interrogation officer who, I'm sorry whether he's gay or not, was a bit of a prick.

How's that feelin' Senator Craig?

What Up? Ryan Schira

How cute is Ryan Schira? I have to admit when I first shot the, then sixteen year old, I was a little scared of myself. Could I really be attracted to a sixteen year old boy? Well, since covering him as my favorite crush for V Magazine, it turns out a LOT of people find this little cutie appealing.

After years of not seeing him, our paths crossed backstage at Kim Jones and the love affair was re-born. However, he was now nineteen. Adorable as ever, I was happy to see he was doing so well. I have not received as much positive feedback about any one person I have written about as I have Ryan Schira.

He recently popped by my pad to let me grab a shot of him (which we nailed in the first frame) and then hung out for a chat. Born in the Bronx, Ryan attended College in Boston, where he studied Audio Production and Sound Engineering. Music is his passion and he remains grateful for all the opportunities and good times modeling has afforded him.

He is the most natural person I have ever spoke with and remains, to this day, my all-time favorite crush.

So what up Ryan?
JD Ferguson: So Ryan, how thrilled am I to have you here right now?
Ryan Schira: Are you?
JD: HELLO?!? Everyone knows your my favorite crush.
RS: News to me.
JD: Are you scared?
RS: I think you say that to all your favorites.
JD: I shot you back when you were sixteen. You were the first guy I shot that was so young and I was actually a little scared of myself while shooting you.
RS: Ha! I didn't know what the hell I was doing then, still don't really.
JD: How did it feel to be sixteen and in NYC city shooting for a top fashion mag with a crazy queen for a photographer?
RS: Well being from the Bronx, the NYC aspect was not there for me, but as far as being sixteen and being shot for a fashion mag, I didn't think you were crazy. I grew up under very open-minded circumstances.
JD: How so?
RS: I have a large extended family with many gay relatives. My best-friend in high school was gay, so it's always just been life. Love is love.
JD: Really? Did you always know he was gay?
RS: No. It actually took him a year to tell me, he thought I'd be critical.
JD: And were you?
RS: No, we were closer afterwards because of that trust.
JD: Ah, that's so sweet. I wish I had you as a friend when I was getting my ass kicked all through high-school.
JD: Your're in a band.
RS: Yes music is actually my passion.
JD: Wait, before we get in to that, how have you enjoyed modeling so far? What's it been like for you?
RS: It's been fantastic. Traveling is absolutely amazing, I've been able to go a lot of places I never would have and I've met a lot of great people.
JD: Well you've done really well. You're a favorite of Kim Jones and Alasdair McLellan, which isn't too bad.
RS: They are my favorites as well, they've helped me through the learning process these last three years.
JD: Have you worked with them a lot?
RS: I worked with Alasdair eight or nine times my first two years and I just saw him in London. Kim is like family to me, I just spent two weeks at his pad in the UK.
JD: Do you have a girlfriend?
RS: I do not. Probably because I travel a lot.
JD: Want one?
RS: You're my only love.
JD: What are some of your favorite countries?
RS: I love London. Vienna is beautiful and very different than I expected and you can never complain about working in Hawaii, if you can call that work.
JD: Okay your band. What's the name? What do you play? What kind of music is it?
RD: "Love Kills Boy," rhythm guitar and lead vocals and it's a Screamo Emo Rock Band.
JD: Really, you sing?
RS: I try.
JD: What's a Screamo Emo rock band?
RS: Heartfelt lyrics with a hard edge.
JD: And do those heartfelt lyrics come from you?
RS: Ya, I actually write most of the lyrics and then the rest is kind of my younger brother Devan. He's the bassist.
JD: And how often are you guys able to get together, since your always traveling?
RS: Not as often as we'd like.
JD: Is it all dependent on your schedule?
RS: Usually, but everyone in the band is still in school. I'm the one who's job got in the way.
JD: And your from Boston?
RS: No, the Bronx, school in Boston. High School in Manhattan, College in Boston.
JD: And what did you study?
RS: Audio Production and Sound Engineering, balancing my musical knowledge or lack there of.
JD: So what do you want to be when you grow up?
RS: I don't want to grow up. But I'd like to be involved in music, that's for sure.
JD: Well I still think you are precious. How does it feel to know that all these queens in fashion are lusting after you?
RS: Keeps me working. (laughs)

Derek Orrell

I first met Request's Derek Orrell backstage in the fall of 2006. I have since shot him a few times, but had not seen him in quite awhile. That is until he turned up at a casting I held the other day, looking better than ever.

The place lit up when he walked in. The girls at the Magazine went crazy. The stylist said to me, "That kid should just skip modeling and go straight to Hollywood."
And you know, it's so true.

Loaded with personality this kid has charisma that I haven't seen since Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise. He's amazing this boy. Don't be surprised if in five years you hear me sayin, "I told you so."

Leona Helmsley RIP

Leona Helmsley helped her husband run a five billion dollar real estate empire (which at one time included managing the Empire State Building) until pleading guilty to tax evasion in 1989.

Long before there was a Bennifer, Tom Kat or Brangelina, there was the "Queen of Mean." Who was once quoted as saying, "We dont pay taxes, only the little people pay taxes." Though she denied the statement, it plagued her for the rest of her life.

In the eighties, Leona Helmsley was better than Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Knotts Landing all rolled up in one. She was the Donald Trump of that time.

It's like the end of an era.

Catherine Tate: How Very Dare You

One of my favorite things to watch in the UK is the BBC's The Catherine Tate Show. For all you AbFab and Tracey Ullman fans out there, who are long missing a little British sass, your in for a big surprise.

With a multitude of personalities under her belt, of different size, age and yes sex, Catherine brings such beloved characters to life as Lauren-the troubled school girl (who's catch phrase "Am I Bovvered?" can be heard from Piccadilly to Portobello.) And Nan Taylor, the cockney granny who, while appearing to be pleasant, is actually a foul-mouthed racist.

However my favorite is Derek Faye. Reminiscent of SNL's Pat, a heavily made-up Tate takes over the body of a bald overly-effiminate man, who is constantly outraged at everyones assumption he is gay. "How very dare you!" he exclaims from one episode to the next. You'll quickly fall in love with this little closeted gay man who lives with his mum and is intolerant of the "impertinence" he finds in all he encounters.

And if Lauren, Nan and Derek aren't enough, be sure to check out Moo Shepherd, Georgia Geordie or Margaret, the woman who reacts violently to common noises. Hystair!

I can't believe Merv Griffin died! Being the product of a generation of OCD-destined children who's parents revelled in the idea of TV as babysitter, I grew up on Merv Griffin. Mostly because it's what my mom watched, therefore it's what I watched.

Merv Griffin was an icon. I'm sure many of you young kiddies out there won't get this, or maybe you will, but he was not only THE consummate showman but a respected savvy entrepreneur who's (now famous) Jeopardy jingle took his million dollar fortune and turned it in to billions.

What Up? Cecilia Dean

Cecilia Dean is a bad-ass. I first met CD (as we call her) when I arrived at V Magazine years ago. With a confident style and sense of self, I thought she was beyond.

This style maven sits at her desk for hours on end, corresponding with virtually every top tier contemporary art dealer on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as key museum curators and some of the world's highest paying advertisers. Pausing occasionally to open one of the many boxes from designers that come for her weekly, or just to grab a bite to eat. All the while remaining un-assumingly chic.

Cecilia burst on to the scene in 1991 as Co-Founder of Visionaire, with pals James Kaliardos and Stephen Gan, and the rest is history. CD effortlessly sits at the top of some of the industry's most coveted Best Dressed lists, with little notice.

So listen up all you fashion punks around the world! When you flick through mags and see what style is supposed to look like, just know that for this queen, it doesn't get any better than Cecilia Dean.

So Cecilia...What Up?
JD: Cecilia.
Cecilia: Yes JD.
JD: How's the office without me? You able to get through your days?
CD: Yes. With a lot less drama and I don't have anyone asking me annoying questions anymore.
JD: So 16 years of Visionaire, is it still just as exciting?
CD: Even more so.
JD: How have the projects changed since the beginning?
CD: We do more ambitious productions these days experimenting with alot of different formats outside of the realm of publishing.
JD: Well you guys are known for thinking outside of the realm. Is that something your proud of?
CD: Sure.
JD: So how does it feel to be considered such a style icon?
CD: I don't think about that JD.
JD: Well you have to.
CD: No I don't.
JD: Well people are always pining for your photo.
CD: I don't think people are pining.
JD: Hon, take it from someone who has to fight with other
photographers to get shots, people pine.
CD: Okay next question. (as she continues typing)
JD: Who are some of your fashion influences?
CD: Oh good grief. Chris! Brian! who are some of my fashion influences?

We all sit and ponder in silence eventually getting back to whatever it was we were each working on.

JD: Where you going for vacation?
CD: Last month I went to Biarritz for some surfing and then to Trieste to judge a photo competition. There was this one day David and I had breakfast in Biarritz, drove to Barcelona and had lunch and then I took a plane to Venice and then a car to Trieste where I had dinner.
JD: So three meals in three countries in one day. That's fun.
CD: I thought so.
JD: Any exciting issues coming out?
CD: I don't want to talk about issues. Go to Visionaireworld.com if you wanna see what's happening.
JD: Thanks for the home grown tomatoes by the way. Have you been gardening long?
CD: Ever since I moved in to my apt seven years ago. But the tomato crops are really hit or miss, sometimes I'll harvest a hundred and only get five.
JD: Do you only do these cherry tomatoes?
CD: No, I like beefsteaks, orange plum tomatoes, some hybrids, I've done heirlooms in the past. I've done beets, peppers and I have an awesome raspberry bush.
JD: Where?
CD: On My roof.
JD: Well, im still your biggest fan and Im sad I don't get to see your face everyday.
CD: Want some guacamole and spelt crackers?

Outtakes: JD Ferguson

Now don't get too excited. You won't be seeing any shots of me in my undies. Before heading out for my summer va-cay, Paper Magazine decided to turn the tables and ask me some questions about what it's been like shooting the Porn Star Series. Sort of as an "end of summer" wrap-up, before returning in the fall with a whole new batch of stars.

My favorite "intern-at-large" Tess Brokaw popped by one afternoon when I was nursing one of my pre porn-shoot hangovers and snapped this shot of me. That's usually the condition I'm in before the guys arrive.

Scary Spice

She may not be Scary Spice anymore but that doesn't mean she's not scary. Melanie Brown, sans punky afro and signature dance moves, is a completely different person. Larry King certainly tried to get to the bottom of this week's million dollar question last night on his show. Why has she come to America and hired notorious publicity hound Gloria Allred to publicly pursue Eddie Murphy as the father of her child? She's got money. So what does she want?

She simply wants to clear the mis-truths about her situation that are circulating in the media. Though she doesn't seem bitter, it certainly wasn't Eddie Murphy who brought this up.

And actually, speaking of Eddie Murphy. So he basically fathered this child and issued a statement saying so, but doesn't want anything to do with it? I'm thinkin' what's up with that?

What Up? Lara Stone

It's ironic that I'm always going on about who my favorite girls are and I've yet to pay tribute to the one that sits at the top of the list. Sure, I've mentioned how laid-back she is, that she's "cool as ice" and of course her photos appear all throughout my backstage coverage for V Magazine. But it is for those same reasons that I just always assumed it was clear, that for me, it doesn't get any better than Lara Stone.

Laying on the couch exhausted from a late night, I was thrilled to learn that my favorite little Dutch girl was not only in town, but right around the corner. She popped by for a smoke and some Thai and we got to catch up on what's been goin' down with Ms. Stone as of late.

So...What Up Lara Stone?

JD: So Lara, I don't know if your aware but I actually wrote about you my first season backstage before we knew each other.
Lara Stone: No way, you did?
JD: Ya, I said I shared a smoke backstage at Calvin with this cool-ass dutch chick.
LS: I didn't see that. The good Ole days:)
JD: A lot has changed for you since then.
LS: Ya it's been crazy.
JD: Crazy good or crazy bad?
LS: Crazy very good. I love being busy.
JD: Well you are crazy, but my favorite kinda crazy.
LS: Thank you dear.
JD: I love that on your myspace page you posted the video of when you infamously "stumbled" at Lagerfeld.
LS: Stumbled? It was a full on fall.
JD: Well I had never seen it until recently, so it makes sense now why you mentioned to me backstage this past spring, that you were scared of the runway. And now I know why. Still scared?
LS: Yes, cuz my feet are too little.
JD: So where exactly are you from anyways?
LS: Mierlo, Holland
JD: How has modeling been for you?
LS: Long
JD: And how old are you now?
LS: 23
JD: Your tits are amazing. What are those 34B?
LS: 34C
JD: What kind of guys do you like?
LS: Hot naughty ones.
JD: So where shall we go eat?
LS: I don't know, we're in your neighborhood, you tell me.
JD: What do you like to eat?
LS: Spicy.
JD: Who's your favorite backstage photographer?
LS: Jim (or James) and Abso. And I like the other blond too.
JD: Uh...I'm sitting right here.
LS: And you. Its never the same backstage without you.

Maritime Sundays

Touted as the "impresario of New York City nightlife" by Liz Tilberis (complete with three page spread), Erich Conrad still knows how to throw a party. Meet Hiro. The Maritime Hotel's sluttier Sunday night step-sister, to the Bowery Bar's Tuesday night Beige.

Holy shit, what a night! Mickey Boardman, Richie Rich (with beau in tow), Michael Musto, Lance Bass,
porn stars Vin Nolan and Ben Andrews, all throwin' down like back in the day. The Veuve was flowin', the trannies were goin', dicks were showin' (no evening with Erich is complete until someone strips for the lens) and I was just happy to get out of there alive.

With the city's sassiest DJ, Honey Dijon (the music was off the hook), loads of shirtless boys, hot bartenders and a bearded drag queen in flowing zebra print, this party packs a punch. Outtakes: Michael Lucas

Up until recently all I knew about Michael Lucas was what I read in the back of H/X years ago, as a young queen in my late twenties trollin' around 8th Ave. He's come a long way since then and has not only had an impact on the biz that is gay porn, but has made quite a name for himself, all the while turning a huge profit.

Love him or leave him, there's no denying he has single-handedly brought the West Coast-dominated porn industry back East. This sexy Russian impresario not only runs an entertainment company bearing his name but, much to his fans’ pleasure, stars in most of the videos himself.

Michael's Friday post with interview, over at Papermag.com, resulted in a full inbox in the ole Gmail account when I returned home late that night. One asked, "What makes him controversial?" Personally, anyone who seems to evoke opinions from people whenever their name is mentioned qualifies as "controversial," to me. He is infamous for his staunch views about Islam and his obvious disgust with his homophobic homeland, both of which he has been quite vocal.
I respect what he's done for himself and I like people with opinions.

Unfortunately, I was so eager to feast my eyes on that reputation-worthy piece that all of my (what would be) outtakes for Michael ended up being nudes. AND, as I have stated in the past, all nudes are reserved for future book. So...sorry, my bad.

A Moment In Time

Before heading out to a 5 a.m. after-hours party, my favorite "Third World Fag" Bryanboy fired me off an email asking, "Where were you during the glorious days of Unzipped?" It so reminded me of just how epic, accompanied with movie, Issac's 1994 FW collection truly was. I have yet to attend a show with as much excitement as this one.

Take a look at Linda in her most cavalier moment ever captured on film. Followed by a young, then fresh-faced Kate Moss, a faux-fur wearing Noami Campbell and one of my all time faves Shalom Harlow, whose grace and ease on the catwalk could not be matched. Carla Bruni, Patricia Velasquez, Helena Christensen, Karen Mulder, Veronica Webb, Nikki Taylor and Cindy Crawford (who never quite seemed to master the art of runway.)

The only thing missing from this clip is Christy Turlington, who was the first girl from this era to stop doing shows. The last, of course, was Naomi who would walk through two more generations of girls, clinging desperately to her faded fifteen.

Seeing this again made me nostalgic for days gone by. So to answer the question, I was sitting just as enthralled with the Supermodel phenom as everyone else was at the time. Hanging on their every word.

Yikes!

So are you ready for this? Turns out my online demographic is twinks in their twenties! I love it! I have to admit when younger guys started showing me attention I freaked. But then I remembered, when I was in my twenties I always thought older guys were hot. So I figured I should embrace it and be thankful anyone's checking me out at all!

This cute little guy turned up on my myspace page, via Los Angeles.

Bourne Ultimatum

Any other Jason Bourne fans out there? F*cking love Jason Bourne! Bourne Ultimatum opens today, but of course with my "avoid peek times and theater trash" rule, I unfortunately won't be seeing it until next week.

Freja Beha Ericsson

One of my favorite girls to shoot backstage is Freja Beha Ericsson. Not because she's young and silly and plays with me like some of the other girls, but because she's very chill and always real. I've written about what a total bad-ass I think she is, but it is her unique beauty and relaxed style that set her apart from the other girls. Like a Lone Wolf.

Karaoke of the Rocks

If I drank liquor I'd be in a karaoke bar every other night. For years people have said to me "You don't do karaoke?" It wasn't until last night that I figured out what the disconnect was for me. Who does karaoke sober? Not the brave crew that crammed in to Angels & Kings for Spin Magazine's three part "Karaoke of the Rocks" tournament. The drinks were certainly flowin' Monday night. I was so impressed. Are all karaokers this good?

Team Diesel started the night off followed by Crush Mgmt, Edun, Meltin' Pot, One Model Mgmt (Scott Lipps killed it), with Rogan and Brooklyn Beat Records bringing up the rear. Guest judges included the incomparable Mick Rock, the always delightful Lydia Hearst, Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump (who totally rocked), Rob Stevenson of IDG Music Group and Bob McLynn of Crush Mgmt.

I thought I was gonna wet myself dancing with Kim Dillard to "Sweet Transvestite," complete with glittered lingerie and strip tease. That was until THE cutest boy in red skinny jeans (think Jude Law) took the stage and belted out Freddy Mercury's "Radio Goo Goo." Like a total pro. He even had Mick Rock questioning his score of 9, having stated early on in the evening 10's would only be handed out to the ladies. I'm telling you he was that cute.

What a fun night! Thanks to all the great contestants for opening my eyes to the world of competitive karaoke and a BIG shout out to Monina over at Spin Magazine!

Just Jr

After reading about what an "internet whore" I've become, I have since decided to embrace it and join the club. It's no secret that I spend a lot of time on the web, but hey who doesn't? For those of you who are slaves to the machine and can't catch a break...FYI-there are a million and five webzines out there from all over the world run by young, talented teens who devote all their after school time to turning out some pretty impressive results.

Case in point, Just Jr. A blog/webzine which produces layouts worthy of some of the top fashion mags out there today. I wish that I were half as talented with an InDesign program as this 16 year-old based out of South East London seems to be. Where was this kid when I was looking for summer interns? Or better yet, a good graphic designer?

I think it's impressive. For all we know we could be looking at the next Fabien Baron, and I'm still trying to figure out how to work this blog!

Prick Cheney

"I am certain come 2008 we will all walk out of the White House with our heads held high, proud of all we've accomplished."- Dick Cheney

If you missed Prick Cheney dodging the lens last night on Larry King Live, lemme bottom line it for you:

"I don't recall."
"I don't recall."
"I don't recall."

"I don't want to get into the specifics."

"9/11"
"9/11"
"9/11"

On Iraq: "...the tides are turning."

On Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez: "Al's a good man, a good friend...I hold him in high regard."

"We are not in the practice of torturing people..."

"The Saudi King is a good friend of the United States...blah, BLAH, BLAH!"

Can you imagine? Puke! Dick Cheney has used
that hemorrhoid Bush as a puppet to line his own pockets, killing thousands of innocent young Americans. And all those poor ignorant folks out there who put him in office, TWICE, are the exact people who are sending their sons and daughters off to be killed. What a sleaze bag.

And to think, we spent 50 million dollars trying to impeach Clinton for a blow job.
